Unlike most relaxation apps, SerenAI integrates life-saving crisis support with everyday wellness tools. Users can access emergency helplines, confidential chat, or grounding exercises like guided breathing — all within a calm, minimal interface. Powered by AI, the app adapts to each individual by detecting mood patterns, personalizing recommendations, and surfacing crisis options when needed. The result is a safe digital space that helps users relax, sleep better, and feel supported when they need it most.

Objective

Design a mindfulness app that helps people relax, sleep better, and manage stress — while also providing immediate support for those experiencing suicidal thoughts or emotional crisis.

Problem

Most relaxation apps focus on meditation and breathing but overlook users in moments of crisis. People suffering from insomnia, depression, or suicidal thoughts often feel isolated and need immediate, accessible help within the same safe environment.

Approach

  • Researched crisis intervention flows and best practices for mental health design.

  • Designed onboarding to quickly detect emotional state, including an “I’m not safe” option.

  • Integrated direct access to emergency services, Samaritans, and CALM chat.

  • Developed a grounding tool (2-minute breathing exercise) for immediate relief.

  • Built a calming, minimal UI using soft gradients, large tap targets, and clear typography.

SerenAI uses artificial intelligence to personalize support and detect crisis patterns:

  • Mood & Crisis Detection: Identifies unsafe states through check-ins and wearable data.

  • Personalized Recommendations: Suggests the right activity based on stress and sleep data.
